Your Step-by-Step Timeline
Now — June 2025: Research Phase
- Identify the course area you want to study (Business, Healthcare, Computing, Law, etc.)
- Research universities that offer your course and check entry requirements
- Consider location, course structure, and student support services
- If you're unsure, a free planning call can help you narrow down your options
July — September 2025: Preparation Phase
- Gather your documents: ID, proof of address, education history, references
- Draft your personal statement
- Check if you need to take any entrance tests
- Register with UCAS if you haven't already
September — January 2026: Application Phase
- Submit your UCAS application before the 29 January deadline
- Double-check every section for errors
- Apply for student finance (if applicable)
- If you're applying for Oxford, Cambridge, or medicine, your deadline is 15 October
February — July 2026: Decision Phase
- Track your application status through UCAS Track
- Respond to university offers by the deadline
- If you didn't receive any offers, use UCAS Extra to find available places
- Arrange accommodation and prepare for your move
August — September 2026: Results & Clearing
- Check your results on results day
- If you met your offer conditions, confirm your place
- If you didn't, explore Clearing — thousands of places become available
- Attend enrolment and induction events at your chosen university
Pro tip: Most students miss deadlines because they underestimate how long document gathering and personal statement writing takes. Start early. Even 30 minutes a week makes a difference.
What Happens If You Miss a Deadline?
Don't panic. If you miss the 29 January deadline:
- You can still apply through UCAS until 30 June — your application will be considered late but many universities still accept late applicants
- After 30 June, you can use Clearing (August onwards) to apply for courses with remaining places
- Some universities also accept direct applications outside UCAS
